About the Author

Temple Grandin

Temple Grandin is like a god when it comes to autism and the autism community. She is by far the most famous and probably the most successful person living on the universe today who has autism. Autism is a neurological disorder that effects how one thinks and connects with the social world around them. Having autism does not make you less of a person or different than anyone else. It just means that there are some or quite a few things about you that appear to be different than there are with other people.

Temple’s mother new from an early age that she was very different and this caused the family to try and work hard together to figure out what could be done to help Temple. Despite numerous doctors who told Temple’s mother Eustacia Cutler that her daughter should just be institutionalized and would never amount to anything her mother took a different route and did not take the advice of all of these doctors who seemed to know or thought they knew more about Temple than her own mother did.

Temple’s mother was very persistent and she did not take no for an answer. She always worked very hard to make sure Temple was behaving as normally as possible. Temple was expected to have typical behaviors and her mother would not accept anything less from her no matter how hard this met that she would have to work as a person with autism.

Temple’s mother made a decision to send her off to boarding school and they sent her to live with her aunt for a summer. This was the first time that Temple really had a chance to shine and make the most of the world for herself.
